These names and stories have inspired the Scottish Culture Rooms which are situated throughout the hotel. Interconnecting rooms are available. Room sizes are approximate.

From Elsie Inglis to Flora Macdonald, the Scottish Cultures rooms take inspiration from science, art and literature.
Princess Frances Dolgorouki, affectionately known as Fanny, was married to Prince Alexis Dolgorouki. She had Scottish roots and frequently holidayed in the North East of Scotland. She took on the lease for Braemar Castle in 1897 for almost 25 years during which she held many lavish society dinners.
Braemar is famous as the place where the standard of Jacobite rebellion against King George I was first raised in 1715. "Colonel" Anne McIntosh was the daughter of chief of Clan Farquharson and supported Bonnie Prince Charlie during the 1745 rebellion, and Flora MacDonald (pictured) famously assisted his escape by rowing him over the sea to Skye.
Son of Catherine Gordon, the heiress of Gight Estate in Aberdeenshire, George Gordon Byron spent much of his early years in Aberdeen. He was a poet, peer, politician and leading figure of the Romantic movement, notably being described as 'mad, bad and dangerous to know'.
Inspired by George Wade who was made Commander in Chief of His Majesty's forces, castles, forts and barracks in North Britain. He oversaw the building of Highland military roads and bridges after the 1745 Jacobite Rebellion.
An innovative Scottish doctor, suffragist and founder of the Scottish Women's Hospitals during the First World War. In 1916 she became the first woman to be awarded the Order of the White Eagle by the Crown Prince Alexander of Serbia in London.
James Bruce was a Scottish traveller and travel writer who spent time in North Africa and Ethiopia where he traced the origins of the Blue Nile.
Johann von Lamont was a Scottish-German geophysicist and Astronomer Royal Bavaria born in Corriemulzie near Braemar. His most important work was on the magnetism of the Earth.
The ninth laird of Auchinleck, James Boswell was a Scottish biographer and diarist, born in Edinburgh, who wrote The Journal of a Tour to the Hebrides with Samuel Johnson, first published in 1785.
Alexander Marshall Mackenzie was the Scottish architect responsible for prestigious projects including Crathie Kirk in 1893 and Mar Lodge for the Duke and Duchess of Fife in 1895.
The Philosophy Room celebrates Scottish figures in philosophy throughout history. including Adam Smith.
Allan Ramsay was a prominent Scottish portrait painter, well known for his portrait of Lord Ilay which was then used on Royal Bank of Scotland notes in 1987. He has paintings in the Scottish National Gallery, Royal Scottish Academy and the National Gallery in London.
William MacGillivray was a Scottish naturalist and ornithologist. Over his career he produced many books and articles, with his most important being History of British Birds which appeared in five volumes between 1837-1852, and the posthumous Natural History of Dee Side and Braemar in 1855.
