What’s going on in Braemar Village this Christmas? (2018)
Now that the clocks have gone back and our days are getting colder, the countdown is on as we approach the season of joy and Christmas festivities. As the most wonderful time of the year to spend with loved ones, making a trip to Braemar Village may be the perfect break away for you this winter. Based in Aberdeenshire, with a tiny population of around 450 residents, Braemar during Christmas has a lot to offer, away from the hustle and bustle of the busy city life and there really is something for everyone to enjoy. Read on to learn what the village of Braemar has to offer, to make this Christmas a special one…
Stunning hikes and scenic walks
Braemar is an excellent place to visit if you’re a fan of mountain hikes, as it’s the southern access point to the Cairngorm mountains. There are roughly 40 mountains over 3000 feet (Munros) which you will be able to access from Braemar, and this includes 4 of the highest mountains across the whole of the United Kingdom.
If you’re not much of a mountain climber, however, Braemar also has a wide range of beautiful local paths around the village for stunning walks alongside flowing rivers and Scottish wildlife.
Our top recommendations for Braemar walks include:
- Creag Choinnich
- Morrone Birkwood
- Linn o’Dee
- The Lairig Ghru
- The Lion’s Face and the Cromlins
- Morrone Ascent
- Linn of Quoich
- Loch Callater
Foraging walks and workshops
At The Fife Arms, we also have our very own in-house forager, Natasha Lloyd who will lead guided foraging walks around the village. These are suitable for both adults and children and you will have the opportunity to gather native, seasonal plants. Natasha will then be able to advise you on how best to use these ingredients in condiments, drinks and cosmetics – a great activity for all ages!
Snowsport Activities
If you are more of a thrill seeker and looking to get active, you will find the incredible local snow sports centre, just 9 miles from Braemar, where you will be able to give skiing, snowboarding or sledging a try.
Glenshee Ski Centre is the largest ski centre in the United Kingdom, with 40km of pistes, 36 runs and 22 ski lifts. The centre has a range of slopes from Green to Black runs, making for a fun, family-orientated activity and a fantastic opportunity to take in the stunning views from some of the highest points in Scotland.
Enjoy a Special Christmas Feast at The Fife Arms
Here at The Fife Arms, we have a lot planned for the Christmas festivities. From bauble making and gingerbread decorating on Christmas eve to a four-course lunch in The Clunie Dining Room and a treasure hunt for Father Christmas’ gifts on Christmas Day, finishing it off with a screening of the family classic ‘The Muppet Christmas Carol’ on Boxing day.
During your stay, you can venture outside to soak up the breath-taking views of the Scottish Highlands or stay warm and cosy inside as we serve up mulled wine and mince pies. We will also have a local choir joining us to perform some traditional Christmas Carols.
