IN CONVERSATION
From the very first secret meeting in 1991 to discuss the idea of a prize honouring, celebrating, and promoting writing by women to the launch of its sister prize in 2024, the Women’s Prize for Fiction and the new Women’s Prize for Non-Fiction led the way in championing global women’s voices. For nearly thirty years, the Prize has put exceptional books by women into the hands of readers, inspired new generations of authors and readers all over the world and changed the publishing industry and the landscape for women writers. From winners such as Andrea Levy, Lionel Shriver and Zadie Smith to Ali Smith, Barbara Kingsolver and Naomi Klein, the WPF and the WPNF are seen as the gold standard in shining a spotlight on the very best.
Founder Director Kate Mosse reflected on the highs and lows, triumphs and challenges, and shared plans for the thirtieth anniversary of the WPF. She also offered a sneak preview of The Map of Bones (the fourth and final novel in her No. 1 bestselling The Joubert Family Chronicles series) and gave insights into the behind-the-scenes planning for her new one-woman theatre show, Labyrinth Live: Unlocking the Secrets of the Labyrinth.
Kate was introduced by Claire Shanahan, Executive Director of the Women’s Prize Trust.
