IN CONVERSATION

Scottish author Caroline Young discussed her book The Fabulous Frances Farquharson: The Colourful Life of An American in the Highlands, the first biography to tell the story of Invercauld and Braemar’s fashion icon Frances Farquharson.

As a former fashion editor of Harper’s Bazaar and a friend of groundbreaking fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli, Frances brought her unique sense of style to the Highlands in 1949 when she became the wife of Captain Alwyne Farquharson, chief of the Farquharson Clan. For the next forty years, she shook up tradition with her own twist on tartan.

Caroline was joined in conversation by local historian and broadcaster Doreen Wood, who shared her own fascinating insights into Frances and her influence as a local Braemar resident.
