Regular Event:
25th Jan 2025
Join us on Saturday 25th January to commemorate the life of Scotland’s most beloved bard, poet and lyricist, Robert Burns. Every year, Burns Night is celebrated in Scotland to mark his unique contribution to Scottish culture and history. There is no place more atmospheric than the Fife Arms to mark this uniquely Scottish event.
An annual celebration, you’ll enjoy a Burns Dinner as well as poetry readings and musical performances from Iona Fyfe and Paul Anderson, a Pipe Band accompanied by a fire performance and a traditional ceilidh led by Clachan Yell.
Iona Fyfe
Aberdeenshire folksinger, Iona Fyfe, has become one of Scotland’s finest singers, rooted deeply in the singing traditions of the North East of Scotland. In 2021, she became the first singer to win the coveted title of Musician of the Year at the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards. Iona is a fierce advocate for the official recognition of the Scots Language, leading a successful campaign to pressure Spotify into recognising Scots and add it to its list of languages. Honoured at the Scots Language Awards with the title of Speaker of the Year in 2021, Iona performs songs in the Scots language, remaining true to her rooting in tradition. She also won the title of Scots Singer of the Year at the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards in 2018.
Paul Anderson
Already something of a legend in the time-honoured fiddle tradition of Scotland; Paul Anderson is the finest Scots fiddler of his generation. In the tradition of many of Scotland’s great fiddlers, Paul is a composer of some repute, having composed over 300 pieces in the Scots style including the theme tune for the film Red Rose about the life of Robert Burns. In 2008 he was the musical director for HMT Aberdeen’s critically acclaimed production of Sunset Song by Lewis Grassic Gibbon. He has also performed at many special occasions including a private reception for Prince Charles at Fyvie Castle to celebrate Prince Charles’ 60th birthday in 2008.
We’ll be toasting the haggis with a wee dram of The Singleton of Dufftown, 12 year old Single Malt Scotch Whisky – Slàinte Mhath
