St Margaret’s is a unique performance, arts and heritage venue in Braemar, Scotland.
Breathing new life into this beautiful historic building has been a decade’s work for a loyal team of trustees and volunteers — transforming St Margaret’s from a neglected church into a vibrant arts and community space.
St Margaret’s Trust delivers an exciting and varied programme of events throughout the year, including concerts, exhibitions, talks, tours, farmers’ markets and workshops.

June 6th – Blue Rose Code (Duo)
Ross Wilson aka Blue Rose Code writes songs straight from – and to – the heart. Exploring love, loss, exile, addiction, hope and faith in a deeply personal way, they blend folk, Americana, jazz, soul and pop influences into something completely unique.
4th July – Beth Malcolm
Beth Malcolm is a singer-songwriter who performs a mix of traditional, modern and her own original Scots songs. Beth spent much of her childhood in a house filled with singing, soaking up old Scots songs like a wee folky sponge. She was named Scots Singer Of The Year in 2022 and has just won it again in December 2024.
26th July – Rhona MacFarlane and Grace Morton
Two of Scotland’s emerging singer-songwriters share the stage for an intimate evening of original music. Join Rhona Macfarlane and Grace Morton for a night of acoustic sets and soulful song writing.
9th August – Matt Carmichael Quartet
Heralded by BBC Music Magazine as “a distinctive new voice in a crowded scene,” Scottish saxophonist and composer Matt Carmichael continues to move from strength to strength and grow his reach globally with his powerfully emotive blend of jazz and folk music.
22nd August – The Routes Quartet
Routes is a string quartet with a difference; made up of traditional folk musicians,
Routes writes and performs a combination of contemporary compositions and innovative arrangements of traditional music. The ensemble bridges the gap between classical and folk music; exploring the vast textures, tones and intimate musical qualities which are characteristic of a string quartet.
5th September – Breabach
Twenty years on from winning the Danny Kyle Open Stage Award at Celtic Connections, Breabach remain securely ranked amongst Scotland’s most skilled and imaginative contemporary folk acts and at the forefront of a burgeoning traditional music scene.
7th September – Caritas Choir with Paul Mealor
Paul Mealor and his Caritas Choir return to St Margaret’s, Braemar, for the traditional post-Gathering concert. A standout event in our annual programme, this special performance will showcase breathtaking choral music.
7th November – CarmanCo
We join Carmen in her boudoir, as she tells her own story in words and music. Dare you consult the cards with her? What does she think of the men in her story? Did she foresee her gruesome ending?
Exhibitions
13th June, 6pm – 15th June, 2.30pm – Amongst The Trees
‘Amongst the Trees’ is a series of creative and collaborative events that explore our co-existence with trees. The fragility of our environment and ecological issues will be discussed alongside considering the positive impact trees have on our wellbeing. Creatives from different disciplines invite us to look closely at our surroundings and see our precious trees and forests in new ways, explore and express their beauty and listen to the stories that they have to tell.
