Regular Event:
8th Mar 2025
Celebrate International Women’s Day at the Fife Arms with author Merryn Glover as she presents an illustrated talk about Nan Shepherd, a remarkable figure in Scottish literature and nature writing, inspiring women to find strength and solace in nature.
Presented by the Fife Arms at Braemar Mountain Festival, this talk will focus on her book The Hidden Fires: A Cairngorms Journey with Nan Shepherd which is a response to the iconic book, The Living Mountain. Nan Shepherd is much celebrated at the Fife Arms and throughout Scotland as her lyrical descriptions of her homeland and walking in the Cairngorms are a source of pride and inspiration to many.
In an immersive event with readings and images, Merryn will tell the story of two women meeting in the Cairngorms across time. There will be the opportunity for an audience Q&A and book-signing with Merryn afterwards.
For hotel guests, Merryn will also be hosting a Creative Writing Workshop at the Fife Arms after her talk. The session titled, Fingerprints and Footprints will focus on reflecting on things we do with our hands and feet and developing ideas for short pieces of writing that explore our journeys, our sense of identity and belonging, and our ‘prints’ in the world.
There will be the opportunity for a book-signing with Merryn afterwards at both events.
