IN CONVERSATION

To accompany the stunning Future Textiles exhibition displayed during the Festival of Fashion, Jacqueline Farrell (Education Director, The King’s Foundation) and Daniel McAuliffe (Education Hub Director, The King’s Foundation) joined designers Christopher Kane, Tammy Kane, and fashion writer Justine Picardie in conversation. They explored the origins and successes of this sector-leading programme, which addressed the current skills gap within the UK textile industry.

The panel discussed the vital role craftsmanship played in a regenerative fashion industry and shared insights into the King’s Foundation’s and their industry partners’ commitment to developing the next generation of practitioners. They highlighted opportunities provided for young people from diverse social and demographic backgrounds, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to tackle the challenges facing the fashion industry.

From socially inclusive skills development programmes engaging participants ranging from secondary school pupils to community groups, and fostering intergenerational learning, to in-depth training initiatives such as the Highgrove Metier d’Arts programme in embroidery in partnership with Chanel, the King’s Foundation’s educational projects embed artisan skills and sustainable practices at their core.
