The Highland Games at Braemar in 2025

The Scottish Highland games are a quintessentially Scottish experience that anyone looking to embrace the countries authentic culture simply has to attend. Held annually, starting in early May and taking place in multiple regions of the highlands all the way until late September; spectators flock from around the world to partake in the frivolities and tradition that envelope these unique games. This famous Scottish tradition finds itself in the picturesque village of Braemar on Saturday 6th September 2025 and will be hosted in The Princess Royal and Duke of Fife Memorial Park.

The Braemar Gathering

Our chapter of the Scottish Highland Game, known as The Braemar Gathering, are hosted just a five-minute walk away from The Fife Arms and a number of great local facilities that will make your stay in the Highlands simply unforgettable. 

Historically taking place on the first Saturday of September, legend has it that the games have been held in Braemar since the days of King Malcolm Canmore over 900 years ago. In recent times, the games continue to have high importance for the the monarchy, with Queen Victoria first having watched them in 1848 and hence fourth establishing an annual tradition of attending The Braemar Gathering that the monarchy keep to this day.  Notably, in 1952, over 31,000 people attended The Gathering to celebrate the beginning of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II in 1952. 

This years Gathering will start at 9am on the 6th September, with events taking place throughout the day until about 5pm. A notable highlight of the day will include  The Massed Bands parade starting at 11.30am on the day.

The Clunie Dining Room 

Sundays during the Highland Games are rather special at The Fife Arms due to our ever-popular Clunie Dining Room. The menus that have been created by our executive chef, Tim Kensett, are complemented quite superbly by the interior décor devised by Argentinian artist, Guillermo Kuitca. The Clunie River Mural, painted in such a unique style, creates the perfect setting in which to enjoy the games in style at The Fife Arms.
