Louise Welsh is an award-winning author of crime and psychological thrillers, including The Cutting RoomPlague Times TrilogyTo the Dogs and The Cut Up. She has received several awards and international fellowships, including the Saltire of Saltires, an honorary fellowship from the University of Iowa’s International Writing Program, and honorary doctorates from the Open University and Edinburgh Napier University.

Welsh is a regular broadcaster and has appeared on many BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio 3 programmes. She is also co-presenter (with Jude Barber) of the podcast, ‘Who Owns the Clyde’, Professor of Creative Writing at University of Glasgow, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the Royal Society of Literature.

In this conversation with Zoë Strachan, Welsh will discuss her third Rilke thriller set in the dark underbelly of contemporary Glasgow, The Cut Up, as well as her sources of inspiration, writing process, and the world of Scottish crime writing. Zoë Strachan is an award-winning novelist who also writes short stories, plays, essays and libretti. Her most recent novel is Catch the Moments as They Fly and her current project is a work of creative non-fiction called A Very Quiet Street?, co-authored with Louise Welsh. She is also Professor of Creative and Interdisciplinary Practice at University of Glasgow.
