The Victoriana Suites reflect the hotel’s history as a 19th century coaching inn. Richly decorated with antique furnishings, period wallpaper and original artwork, the suites offer stunning views over Braemar and the surrounding Highland landscape. For families a sofa bed and interconnecting rooms are available. Room sizes are approximate.
From Prince Albert to Victorian Highland Music and Dancing, the Victoriana Suites are inspired by history and individuals.
These games are the most iconic in Scotland and also known as The Braemar Gathering. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is the patron and she has attended every year since her reign in 1952. Also known as Prince of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, he married Queen Victoria in 1840. He loved their time at Balmoral and took an active interest in the design of the castle.
Born in Braemar, Brown was the Ghillie at Balmoral Castle and became Queen Victoria's faithful personal attendant, supporter and friend after the death of Prince Albert.
Inspired by James Scott Skinner, a Scottish dance master, violinist, fiddler and composer. Skinner was born in Banchory and was asked by Queen Victoria to teach callisthenics and dancing to the royal household at Balmoral.
4th Earl of Aberdeen, Gordon was Prime Minister of Great Britain from 1852 until 1855 during the first two years of the Crimean War.
Alexandra, Tsarina of Russia and Princess of Hesse and by Rhine, was Queen Victoria's favourite granddaughter. She would spend summers with Queen Victoria at Balmoral and went on to marry Tsar Nicholas II, heir to the throne of Russia.
Queen Victoria got Sharp the border collie not long after the death of Prince Albert. He became her favourite pet and was always by her side, especially when she visited Balmoral.
The Duke of Fife Coat of Arms can be seen above the entrance of the hotel and the fireplace in the drawing room. Alexander Duff was given his dukedom by Queen Victoria, two days after he married her granddaughter Princess Royal Louise.
A Highlander was a name given to someone who lives in the Scottish Highlands on the mountainous terrain. Famous Highland clansmen include Rob Roy MacGregor.
Crown Prince of Prussia, Frederick married Queen Victoria's eldest daughter Victoria, in 1858. He was famously Kaiser of Germany for just 99 days in 1888, known 'The Year of Three Emperors'.
The eldest son of Victoria and Albert, Edward was king of Great Britain from 1901 until 1910. He married Princess Alexandra of Denmark and was a popular monarch following his mother's reign, introducing new honours such as the Order of Merit often known as the UK's highest honour.
