Reigning from 1837 until her death in 1901, Queen Victoria purchased Balmoral Estate in 1852 and built the current castle. She pioneered fresh-air holidays in Deeside, making Braemar a popular tourist destination.
Inspired by some of Braemar’s most noble visitors, our five-star Royal Suites are richly furnished with antiques, artworks and even objects that once belonged to these historic figures. With views over the surrounding Highland landscape, the rooms also feature freestanding copper bath, rain shower, double bed and separate sitting room. For families a sofa bed and interconnecting rooms are available. Room sizes are approximate.

Two days after marrying the eldest daughter of King Edward VII, Queen Victoria made Alexander Duff the 1st Duke of Fife and Marquess of Macduff. He became an enlightened Laird of Mar Estate.
The eldest daughter of King Edward VII and Alexandra of Denmark, Louise and her husband 1st Duke of Fife moved to Scotland and built Mar Lodge and The Fife Arms during the 19th Century.
Nicknamed 'the Munshi', Karim was an Indian attendant of Queen Victoria and a close confidant for the last twelve years of her life.
