The Fife Arms is delighted to offer guests a unique opportunity to exclusively tour Balmoral Castle.
This summer Balmoral Castle, the Scottish home of the Royal Family since it was purchased for Queen Victoria by Prince Albert in 1852, will open to the public for the first time since 1855. Fife Arms guests have been granted exclusive access to a private tour from 2.30pm – 3.30pm on selected dates during the opening period.
To make the experience even more memorable, guests are invited to start the day with a delicious lunch at our sister restaurant Fish Shop in nearby Ballater, officially opened by HM Queen Camilla in 2023. After a specially curated chef’s menu, you will be taken by private transfer into Balmoral where you will be treated to the private tour taking visitors on a historical journey through several of the beautiful rooms within Balmoral Castle.
Visitors will learn about the origins of the Castle and how it has been loved by generations of the Royal Family; from the purchase of the Balmoral Estate by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, through to the present day, where rooms within the Castle are used today by Their Majesties The King and Queen and members of the Royal Family.
In the Ballroom, His Majesty The King’s watercolour collection will be on display, comprising 22 watercolours, painted by His Majesty and depicting scenery at Balmoral, Highgrove and Sandringham. Also on display will be a collection of outfits worn by Their Majesties King Charles and Queen Camilla, Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth, and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.
Following the tour, you’ll be taken to Keiloch, one of the most significant areas of the remaining ancient Caledonian Pine Forest protected by Queen Victoria. Here you will start a guided walk with one of our Ghillies which also takes you around the stunning Balmoral Estate.
A transfer will take you back to your hotel to enjoy the rest of your evening at The Fife Arms
