Inside the 'Secret' Room
Chanel’s interest in tweeds and Scottish style began in 1925 when her lover, Hugh ‘Bendor’ Grosvenor, 2nd Duke of Westminster, gifted her the mansion of Rosehall in Sutherland, which she decorated in floral Parisian wallpapers. She subsequently discovered Linton Tweeds, a textile mill over the border in Carlisle, and their collaboration resulted in the creation of her now-iconic Chanel tweed jacket.
Specially commissioned tweeds from the very same mill feature throughout the room, complemented by decorative touches drawn from the designer’s 31 Rue Cambon apartment in Paris, from the wheatsheaf chandelier to the Art Deco mirror on the dressing table.
